The best Facebook post came my way last night & it made me smile instantly. Someone had shared an article from onlyinyourstate.com’s featuring the 6 best places in Iowa for flea markets. Here’s the link to check it our yourself: http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/iowa/6-must-visit-flea-markets-ia/
I have to say, The Barn in Wellman has been on my radar for something like two years. Not only is the barn partly made of re-purposed old windows they have twice a year events called The Flea & Fair. The Spring fun begins on Friday, May 20th = swoon! It would be on going-to calendar but our youngest graduates high school that weekend so we have our own busy bee things to do. They did announce their Fall Flea & Fair on their website, http://www.thebarniowa.com. It will start on Friday, September 16th! This date is highlighted on the going-to calendar & Junk Hunk is on board for the day trip!
And then there is the What Cheer Flea Market…oh, if you haven’t been to this one, it is worth your time! There is really something there for everyone. We have the scoop that organizers have shared this year will be the biggest & best yet. WCFM posted on their Facebook page a just completed, new Morton building to accommodate more vendors wanting an indoor space. Having been here more times than I can count over the past 20+ years I have a few favorite dealers so it’s exciting to see what they bring each time. Some actually have retail stores or occasional events themselves. It’s a great way to find out about other places & adventures to plan.
As far as the other four places listed in the article, Junk Hunk & I picked Wapello Flea Market as the next potential hot spot to check out this year. I have to admit, I put all events on my calendar & more times than not, several over lap each other or conflict with family celebrations or work but it always gives me something to look forward to the next year. Take JunkStock, for example, in Omaha. It had been on my wish list for almost three years & last October, we got to go! It did NOT disappoint. It was the whole ambiance of the place: vendors from all over the U.S., the food, the music, the photo ops & farm setting. It’s definitely a gotta-go-back place for me & I’m sure you would love it too.
Have any of you been to any of these listed in the article? If so, please comment & let us know what you liked about your experience! Here are a few pictures from the article to get you inspired for some junkin’ traveling:
